Wednesday night, I was flipping channels when I landed on TV Land. They had some special about William Shatner. He's obviously a much more unique guy than James Kirk, T.J. Hooker or Denny Crane. Yes, even more unique than Denny Crane. Towards the end of the special, Shatner was singing some song about living and knowing that you are going to die. About that time, my phone rang.

It was one of the guys I work with -- the guy who will be my best man, in fact. As I muted the TV, I thought about how I'd answer him when he asked what I was doing. What's funnier that listening to William Shatner singing about how we're going to die?

I didn't get my chance to make a joke.

He called to tell me that one of his good friends had been killed in a wreck.

What the fuck kind of timing is that?

If we're not living life with the knowledge that it's fleeting, we better start. I know that I'm only satisfied with parts of my life. It's time to work on the rest. Please do the same. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
