Laissez les bons temps rouler -- without me

For the first time since 2003, I'm not in south Louisiana during the final hours of Mardi Gras.

Two years ago, I made the trip solo to clear my head of a lot of things. Last year, I celebrated "down the bayou" with Jessie. This year, I'm saving the vacation time for later in the year and am at work instead. To be honest, I really miss it -- especially this year. I've always felt a connection with New Orleans. I felt it the minute I first visited. New Orleans is more than a place. If life was a story, New Orleans would be its own character. And not only do I want to know first-hand what sort of condition its in these days... I really wanted to be a part of its first celebration since the insanity of Katrina. I've missed the party, but I've gotta make a trip south very soon.

Happy Lent -- a few minutes early.
