Saturday, my mom finally heard from my uncle in Covington. She had received an anonymous voice mail from someone she didn't know earlier in the week saying that my uncle, aunt & cousin were okay. However, I can tell that my mom felt great relief to actually speak to him Saturday.
With Katrina behind him, he's vowed never to ride out a hurricane again. It sounds as though they endured six hours of hell. But outside of a pine tree into the attic, their house survived in what amounted to hurricane roulette. The house next door is gone. The two houses next to it survived with damage. The fourth house down the street was also destroyed. Certainly, we are thankful that they fared so well while others suffered so greatly.
