WNL-IX: "I can see the kind of trouble you could get me in"

To be honest, I've been on a Trisha Yearwood kick as a of late. I instantly fell for her new song, "This Is Me You're Talking To" and quickly put it into heavy iTunes rotation. However, we've gotta lighten up this Wednesday night party. It's getting a little slow and mellow around here. So, this week, I give you some Junior Brown.

Not only is this guy entertaining lyrically (which is what WNL is supposed to be about), but he's fun to watch. If for no other reason, most folks know of him on account of the song "Highway Patrol" or because they saw him and the Mrs. in that GAP ad a few years back. Of course, it also helped that he was big on the Austin music scene, too. Regardless of how one discovers him, you've got to appreciate him if for no other reason that the fact that he invented the guit-steel -- a traditional six-string guitar and a steel guitar merged together as one instrument.

My personal Junior Brown favorite is a song called "My Wife Thinks Your Dead." I thought it was pretty nifty when I first heard it back in the mid 1990s. Now that I've gone and gotten myself a wife and a few crazy ex's (who may or may not have been incarcerated)... I love it even more.

It's good to see you baby, it's been a long long while
We're both a whole lot older and seen a lot of miles
But things are really different now since the good ol' days
And you've been in some trouble since we went our separate ways
We'll have to say hello maybe some other time instead
'Cause you're wanted by the police and my wife thinks you're dead

Somebody spread the rumor that you had lost your life
'Least that's the way I heard it and what I told my wife
Now here you're showing up again and talk is getting 'round
And I can see that one of us will have to leave this town
If you think that I want trouble then you're crazy in your head
'Cause you're wanted by the police and my wife thinks you're dead

You never called or wrote me; just up and disappeared
Nobody knew what happened or where you've been for all these years
Now troubles what you're lookin' like 'cause trouble's where you've been
And I can see the kind of trouble you could get me in
You better pay attention to every word I said
'Cause you're wanted by the police and my wife thinks you're dead

So goodbye to you baby, I'm glad we've got to talk
But I'm faithful to my wife and I don't ever break the law
I don't know where you're headed for but I know where you've been
We've reminisced now lets just go our separate ways again
Go find another ex-sweetheart to hang around instead
'Cause you're wanted by the police and my wife thinks you're dead
